COMPANY PROFILE

NTI-skolan (the Nordic Technical Institute) was established in 1968 by Mikael Elias. Up to 1993 NTI was operating mainly as a correspondence school, offering technical distance courses on a level similar to the upper secondary school. The target group was private persons who financed their studies themselves. The pedagogy was based on the interaction of theory and practice.

Since 1993 NTI is providing municipal adult upper secondary education, during the first years mainly face-to-face IT courses in Stockholm. At the end of the nineties NTI was established also in Göteborg and Malmö and became by far the biggest external school in these cities in the sector of upper secondary IT education. In the late nineties we were also commissioned by several municipalities to provide distance training in IT topics.

In 2000 NTI introduced core subjects and other upper secondary courses from a distance as well as face-to-face in our offer to the municipalities. From 2004 we are also providing distance courses in health care, and today we have close on 100 upper secondary courses which can be tutored from a distance.

At present NTI is offering face-to-face training in the following places: Stockholm, Göteborg, Malmö, Umeå and Falun. In the larger cities most of the courses are vocational whereas core subjects and other upper secondary courses are dominating in Umeå and Falun. Falun is unique in so far that all upper secondary education is performed by NTI.

More than 40 municipalities have concluded general agreements on distance education with NTI. Several municipalities have also assumed the responsibility for handling NTI’s courses vis-à-vis surrounding municipalities. The actual number of municipalities using the courses of NTI is about 70. At the time of writing NTI has approx. 6 000 active students in distance training. At present we offer 91 national courses from a distance.

Furthermore, NTI is operating 9 independent upper secondary schools, situated in Stockholm, Göteborg, Malmö, Sundsvall, Eskilstuna, Karlskrona, Luleå and Falun. More establishments are planned. NTI is also providing Qualified Vocational Training (KY). Furthermore NTI is carrying out assignments of the county labour boards of Stockholm, Göteborg and Malmö. In our in-company training we offer competence development in IT topics to the trade and industry.

Quality certifications from for instance Microsoft, Sun, Oracle, Quark, Adobe and Macromedia, vouch for the highest international standard of our training.

Our involvement in branch associations such as the Swedish Association for Distance Education, the Swedish Association of Independent Schools and the Swedish Association for Adult Learning (Lärvux) gives us a national perspective and commitment.

Thanks to our reference groups and contacts with the local business communities, we are firmly established in the localities where we are operating.

Being one of the oldest private educational companies in Sweden, our experience and know-how are of a clear advantage to our students.

NTI is a family-own joint-stock company with a turnover of approx. 190 million SEK for the split financial year of 2004/2005. NTI has 250 permanently employed co-workers.
